Leadership seminar: How to lead your team competently and profitably

Good leadership in a company not only has an impact on employee motivation and satisfaction, but consequently also on the success of the company. However, leadership is not always the same and certainly not always good leadership. Depending on the company and position, your responsibility and authority as a leader may vary. Our leadership seminars are aimed at different target groups and deal with correspondingly different aspects. The focus is on acquiring or improving your leadership skills and your day-to-day leadership. Develop your leadership personality in a leadership seminar and lead your team with professional competence, situational leadership behaviour and flexibility safely and confidently through times of change.

The basics of leadership - Expertise is not the same as leadership competence

Leadership is defined differently depending on the context. According to Lutz von Rosenstiel, Professor of Organisational and Business Psychology, "Leadership (...) is the direct, deliberate and goal-oriented exertion of influence by the holder of a superior position on subordinates with the help of communication tools."[1] Leadership therefore fundamentally means influencing one's own behaviour, that of employees and consequently that of the entire organisation in such a way that certain goals can be achieved. Expertise alone is therefore not enough to successfully lead a team, a department or even an entire company.

How do the management seminars work?

The methods used to impart knowledge in the individual leadership seminars vary to some extent. In principle, all our leadership seminars have a strong practical orientation. In individual and group work, you will develop theories and tools either independently or in groups, which you will put into practice in interactive exercises with concrete examples. Depending on the seminar, role plays and video recordings and analyses are also included. You will always receive feedback from your experienced leadership coach and you will have the opportunity to exchange ideas with the other course participants in discussion rounds. Do you have questions about specific situations that you have experienced on the job? You can bring individual examples to the seminar at any time. After the seminar, you will receive documents that you can use to refresh your knowledge even after the end of the leadership seminar.

Why is a leadership seminar important

The success of a team or even an entire company stands and falls with the success of a manager. The result depends first and foremost on your own leadership behaviour and employee management. A leadership position goes hand in hand with a role model function, which in turn has an impact on the job satisfaction of your employees. If they are satisfied, you can expect a higher work performance, which means that the entire team and consequently your task as a manager will be successful. In addition, this will help you to retain your staff and the company.

3 Advantages of leadership seminars for your everyday leadership life

  • Recognise shortcomings in your leadership style and learn how to counteract them with appropriate soft skills and strategies.
  • Learn how to earn the respect and trust of your employees.
  • Practise how to lead your employees in a motivating and therefore successful and profitable way and how to treat your employees with appreciation.

Leadership seminars: Can good leadership be learnt?

Leadership qualities are not a question of talent. Rather, you need solid hard and soft skills as well as plenty of experience to be able to guide your employees well and thus achieve success. But even managers who have not been in management practice for so long can already be good leaders. In our leadership seminars, we teach all the theories, methods and soft skills you need to manage your department or company well. If you know what effective leadership looks like, how to talk constructively with your employees and how to manage conflicts effectively, you have the best prerequisites for being a good manager. In our seminars, experienced trainers will therefore introduce you to all the important topics in the field of leadership and prepare you for practical situations that are relevant to you.

10 characteristics by which you can recognise a good manager

10 characteristics by which you can recognise a good manager
  1. Expertise: To be accepted and respected as a manager by your employees, you need to have the necessary expertise and experience.
  2. Communication skills: Good communication is important. Be transparent and ensure a regular exchange of information between your employees and yourself.
  3. Sense of responsibility: Be aware of your duties and show your staff the way with your decisions. Be reliable.
  4. Conflict management : Conflicts are also part of everyday working life. Manage them successfully by being honest, fair and patient.
  5. Team spirit: As a manager, it is your job to encourage your employees to work together.
  6. Emotional intelligence : Awareness of your personal strengths and weaknesses as well as empathy and credibility are essential for fair and individualised employee management. Always argue objectively and do not exploit your position as a manager.
  7. Passion: In a management position, you have a role model function. Your attitude to work is reflected in the work ethic of your employees in the long term.
  8. Motivation: Only motivated staff work well and with pleasure.
  9. Positive criticism: Criticism is important, but it should be constructive in order to actually bring about improvements and maintain employee satisfaction.
  10. Ability to delegate: Even if you can do everything, you won't have the time to do everything on your own. Trust in your employees and delegate tasks.

Leading well with the right management style

An important part of good leadership is choosing the right management style. This is because it fundamentally influences the level of commitment and motivation of your employees and consequently also the reputation of your company for potential applicants. If your employees feel comfortable under your leadership and enjoy working under the management team, there is a high probability that they will recommend you as an employer. If this is not the case, good staff may leave and you will have difficulty attracting qualified specialists. But what leadership styles are there and what makes for successful leadership?

There are various economists and sociologists who deal with different leadership styles. Basically, the individual styles describe the degree of employee participation in decision-making issues as well as the specific role of the manager in the superior-employee structure. While a classic distinction is made between an authoritarian, cooperative and laissez faire style (Kurt Lewin) or a patriarchal, autocratic, bureaucratic and charismatic style (Max Weber), more and more new leadership styles are emerging in today's dynamic working world: Servant Leadership, which focuses on the needs of the team members, Positive Leadership, which requires a high degree of emotional intelligence on the part of the manager, or Transformational Leadership, in which the manager brings about change and success through their own role model function - in our leadership seminars we introduce you to all the relevant leadership styles.
